Welcome!

Friends of the Key Largo Chamber of Commerce:

Welcome to our website for advocacy, elections information and nonpartisan civic participation. Whatever you want to know about the upcoming elections can probably be found in this "one-stop shop."

Here you can register to vote, apply for an absentee ballot, learn more about candidates and link to their individual websites, locate where you go to vote, contact your elected officials, and much more. We've also added pieces that will let you contact legislators on issues important to you.

Voter participation in the Keys hovers at about 50 percent in the general election. That's boils down to about 23,000 people deciding the fate of every Monroe County resident and property owner.

That's not good enough.

Make no mistake: The rules are made by the people who show up. If you're OK with that, fine...just don't complain about the result. But if you do want to "show up," register to vote and go to the polls to exercise your right to participate in our government.

And please don't say one person's vote doesn't matter. I personally have seen five elections won by a single vote.

Too busy to vote? Lousy excuse! You can always find the time for what's important - and nothing is more important that making your voice heard. Polls in the Keys are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. - surely you can find a half hour (or less) to participate in this vital process.

Do everything you can to participate in the 2008 elections. Learn about the issues. Meet the candidates. Ask the hard questions - and keep asking them until you get the answers.

Tens of thousands of Americans have died to ensure that you have the right to vote. Don't throw away their sacrifice. Your vote WILL make a difference.

I hope you enjoy and use this site. It's got a wealth of information that can help you make intelligent, well-informed decisions in the elections ahead.

Sincerely,

Jackie Harder
President
Key Largo Chamber of Commerce

P.S. Please be aware that the chamber of commerce does not endorse candidates for office.
